Overview
About Edit PDF
SwiftPDFEdit is a complete visual PDF editor that runs inside your web browser, with no installation and no upload. You open a document, work on it directly on the page — changing the text that is already there, adding new text, drawings, highlights, shapes, images, stamps and signatures — and export a new PDF when you are done.
It covers both halves of PDF editing, which most browser tools do not. The annotation half places new objects on top of the page: text boxes with your choice of font, size, weight and colour; freehand pen and highlighter; rectangles, ellipses, lines and arrows; sticky notes, check and cross marks, date stamps and tables; whiteout to erase an area; and imported images. The editing half changes the document itself — SwiftPDFEdit's in-place text engine rewrites the PDF's content stream so original words are genuinely replaced rather than hidden under a white box.
The workspace is built for real documents. Pages render at native quality with smooth zoom, a thumbnail rail lets you jump between pages and rotate, reorder or delete them, find and replace works across the whole document, and every change is tracked with unlimited undo and redo until you export. A double-click on existing text picks it up for editing; the toolbar makes clear which tools change the file and which only draw on top of it.
Export burns your changes permanently into a new PDF using a professional-grade engine, so the result opens correctly everywhere and cannot be un-annotated by the recipient. Nothing about that process involves a server: the document is read, edited and written entirely in your browser tab, and it is only stored to your SwiftPDFEdit account if you explicitly press Done.
For focused jobs there are dedicated pages that open the same editor with the right tool in mind: Edit PDF Text for changing wording in place, Find and Replace for document-wide substitutions, Redact PDF for permanently removing sensitive text, Fill Out PDF Forms for completing paperwork, and Sign PDF for signatures.
Step by step
How to edit a PDF online
Open the SwiftPDFEdit editor
Go to swiftpdfedit.com/editor and sign in to your free account. The editor loads in the page — there is nothing to install.
Load your PDF
Drag the document into the editor or browse for it. Pages render locally at native quality and appear in the thumbnail rail.
Edit the existing content
Choose the Edit text tool and double-click any paragraph to change the words that are already in the document, or use Redact to remove text permanently.
Add your own annotations
Use the toolbar to add text boxes, freehand drawing, highlights, shapes, whiteout, images, stamps, dates and signatures anywhere on the page.
Reorganise the pages if needed
Use the thumbnail rail to rotate, reorder or delete pages, and undo or redo any step with Ctrl/Cmd+Z and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z.
Export the edited PDF
Click Export. Your changes are merged into a new document that downloads immediately; press Done only if you also want it saved to your account.
Questions
Edit PDF — frequently asked questions
Yes — genuinely, not by covering it up. SwiftPDFEdit rewrites the PDF's content stream so the original characters are replaced, which is why the result still has selectable, searchable text rather than a white patch with new text floating on top. In-place editing of original text is part of the full editor included with Pro; the annotation tools are free. See our Edit PDF Text page for the details.
Nothing to install — the editor is a web page. A free account is required to open the editor; the Free plan allows 3 tasks a day and 5 saved documents, and paid plans lift both.
No. Your file never leaves your device — all processing happens locally in your browser. The document is only sent to your SwiftPDFEdit account if you explicitly press Done to save it — editing and exporting never require that.
Yes — unlimited undo and redo for every object you add, move, resize or delete, and for text edits, redactions and replace-all operations, right up until you export.
You can annotate, whiteout and draw on a scan immediately. Editing its words requires the page to contain real text — a scan is a picture, so it has to be put through OCR first. OCR is part of the Pro plan.
Yes, and touch input works well for the pen, highlighter and signature tools. Precision editing of dense text is far more comfortable on a larger screen.
Yes. On export, annotations are burned into the page content and text edits are already part of the document, so the recipient cannot toggle them off in a PDF reader.
Not while it is encrypted. Remove the protection with Unlock PDF first — for a document you are authorised to modify — then open the decrypted copy in the editor.
