About Fill Out PDF Forms
SwiftPDFEdit fills PDF forms by letting you place real text, check marks, dates and a signature directly onto the page, then exporting a flattened document. It works on any PDF, which matters because the forms people are actually sent — a scanned application, a printed-then-photographed agreement, a council form saved from a website — usually have no fillable fields at all.
The everyday version of this problem is print, fill in by hand, scan, email. That costs a printer, a scanner and twenty minutes, and produces a crooked grey image at the end of it. Filling the form on screen takes a couple of minutes and produces a crisp, legible document that the recipient can read without squinting.
The tools map onto what forms ask for. The text tool types into a line or box, with font size and colour you can match to the form; check and cross marks tick boxes; the date stamp inserts a formatted date; the signature pad captures a drawn signature you can place and resize; and whiteout clears anything you filled in wrongly. Zoom in to line up text with a ruled line, and objects can be nudged into position after placing.
Be clear about how this differs from an interactive form. SwiftPDFEdit writes your answers onto the page rather than into AcroForm fields, so the exported PDF is flattened — the answers are part of the document. In practice that is what most recipients want: nothing can be accidentally cleared, changed or reset, it prints exactly as it appears, and it opens identically in every reader rather than depending on the recipient's PDF software supporting form fields. If the sender specifically requires an interactive form to come back with live field data, use the software they specify.
Everything happens in your browser. Forms are among the most sensitive documents anyone handles — they carry addresses, dates of birth, bank details, medical information — and none of that is uploaded here. When the form is finished, sign it in the same session with the Sign PDF tools and export once.
Step by step
How to fill out a PDF form
Open the SwiftPDFEdit editor
Go to swiftpdfedit.com/editor and sign in to your free account, then load the form you were sent.
Zoom in on the first field
Zoom so the form's lines and boxes are comfortably large — it is much easier to align text at 150% than at page-fit.
Type your answers onto the page
Choose the Text tool, click on a line or inside a box, and type. Adjust size and colour so your answers sit naturally on the form.
Tick boxes and add dates
Use the check and cross marks for tick boxes and the date stamp for date fields, placing each one where it belongs.
Add your signature
Open the signature pad, draw your signature with a mouse, trackpad or finger, then place it on the signature line and resize it to fit.
Export the completed form
Click Export. Everything is flattened into the page content, so the finished PDF prints correctly and cannot be cleared or altered by accident.
Questions
Fill Out PDF Forms — frequently asked questions
Yes — that is the main reason to use this. SwiftPDFEdit places your text directly on the page, so a flat form, a scan or a photographed document can be completed just as easily as one built with form fields.
No, and that is deliberate. Your answers are flattened into the page content on export, so nothing can be accidentally cleared, reset or altered, and the document prints and displays identically in every PDF reader.
SwiftPDFEdit writes your answers onto the page rather than into interactive form fields, so the returned file is flat. That is what most recipients want; if the sender specifically requires live field data, use the software they specify.
Zoom to about 150% before you start, click precisely on the line, and nudge the text object into place after typing. Matching the form's font size makes the result look typed rather than pasted on.
Yes. Draw your signature in the signature pad, place it on the signature line, resize it, and export once — there is no need to fill in one tool and sign in another.
Undo with Ctrl/Cmd+Z, or select the object and delete it. If the mistake is in the form's own printed content, use whiteout to clear the area and type over it.
No. Your file never leaves your device — all processing happens locally in your browser. Forms carry addresses, dates of birth and bank details, and none of it is transmitted — the document is only saved to your account if you press Done.
Yes, and signing with a finger on a touchscreen usually looks better than signing with a mouse. Typing into small fields is easier on a tablet or laptop.
