Sign a PDF online

SwiftPDFEdit lets you sign a PDF by drawing your signature in the browser and placing it directly on the page, then exporting a signed document with the signature embedded permanently. Print, sign, scan, email is a workflow that should have died a decade ago, and this replaces it in about ninety seconds.

Draw the signature once with a mouse, trackpad or touchscreen — a finger on a phone or tablet usually produces the most natural result — then click to place it, and drag to move and resize until it sits properly on the signature line. The same signature can be placed as many times as the document requires, which matters for agreements that want initials on every page.

A signature is rarely all that a document needs. In the same session you can add the date with the date stamp, type your printed name and title beside the signature, tick the boxes the agreement asks you to tick, and fill in any blanks — all with the same editor, exported in one pass.

On export the signature is burned into the page content using a professional-grade PDF engine, so the file opens correctly in every reader and the recipient cannot move or delete your signature as if it were an annotation. Because the whole process runs in your browser, a contract, NDA or offer letter never touches a server — and the signed file is stored to your SwiftPDFEdit account only if you explicitly press Done.

It is worth being precise about what this is. A drawn signature placed on a document is a simple electronic signature, which is legally recognised for a great many everyday agreements in the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and elsewhere. It is not a certificate-based digital signature with cryptographic identity verification and a tamper-evident seal. Where a regulation, a counterparty or a court requires that stronger form — qualified electronic signatures under eIDAS, for example — use a qualified trust service provider instead.
